Thank You For Being a Part of This Journey

This has been a really exciting one year for me, and I hope a really good year for you as well. I don’t usually like to get dramatic, and expose to much of my personal life. However, before I leave this blog, for my last post, I have something I have to get off my chest, and share with you.
For one year, I had this blog. However, just a few months before I had this blog, I was going through some issues. I was at a place in my life, but I didn’t feel 100 percent happy about being at this place. Everything seemed as if it were going well, but my emotions were not going so well. I was simply unhappy. I was unhappy because, I had a professor who did not support me, classmates who did not support me, I felt stupid, used, sad, heartbroken, and unsure about the field I was going in, that field being film production at Broward College.
Ever since I was a young kid, I thought that making films, being a part of a crew, and creative writing was something I could be a part of. Throughout school, people have told me I am a good writer, even though I never considered myself a writer, and still don’t. At Broward College, I took a screenwriting class, and I will never forget what the class said that day. They told me, “your script was the best we’ve read.” I have Professor M. Fink to thank for that. I had another professor, Professor E. Schmidt, who told me, “My movie review was the best in the class.”
Other students were excited to see if my written work can be filmed. The first class was really fun, we formed friendships, and I learned so much about film production, studies, management, and equipment. Fast forward, and Film Production 2 was Hell for me. The new professor, in my opinion, had a lot of maturing to do. To this day, I still believe that a thousand-dollar flop of a film program should be a ten thousand-dollar success of a film program. You want to know why it isn’t? It’s because you have a professor playing favorites, only looking out for his own success, students talking badly about other students behind their backs, among other issues. I literally did not care for the class, and I gave up. I didn’t need the class anyways, because I was set to graduate and move onto Florida Atlantic University.
I took a semester off, because I really had to think about my life. I did some meditating, and reconnected with myself. I thought to myself, “I’ve been told I can write well, and I have a degree in film studies. Maybe I can write about films, and other aspects of entertainment?” Crazy me right. I wrote about the Broward College film program, conducted an interview with the students, and a close friend of mine, who was a background actor on the HBO show Ballers. A local publication, Independent Streak Magazine, liked my work, and used it! After this, I decided to review a couple of movies on IMdB and Rotten Tomatoes. The reviews were shit, but people did react positively towards them. Then I decided to go to Joblo’s Movie Fan Central. People really liked my reviews, and my reviews were getting better and better with each new review/post. I even made some YouTube videos.
This is where you come in. I decided to create this blog. Where I share movie reviews, news, pictures, t.v. episode reviews, etc. Surprisingly, I got likes, followers, and positive feedback. I went to Creators.co/MoviePilot and Wix to expand. I decided to eventually call the blog Nile Fortner Presents Boogie Buddha (Boogie Buddha being my name from Rotten Tomatoes). People took an interest, and things seemed like they are on a good path. I figured out what I want to do with my life, I wanted to be in the Multimedia Journalism field!
This blog was a great start for me. I didn’t do this for the likes, the followers, subscribers, etc. I did this because I had a passion for something that I wanted to share with people. Share with you, because no matter who you are, if you checked me out for my post, you most likely have something in common with me.
I wanted this to help me gain confidence, and move onto something I never thought could or would happen. In one year, I feel so much better. I feel healthier, happier, wanting to reconnect with old friends, make new friends, be more outgoing, be with family, and be the best me I know I can be. In one year, this blog has lead me to write for Cinephellas.com, WeLiveEntertainment.com, Independent Streak Magazine, conduct interviews, create videos, write articles, ComicAttack.net, write scripts, travel, write for my school paper, work on a music video set, I even directed a music video for some friends/local artist!
I know I do not have that many followers, subscribers, likes, etc. On the other hand, I believe it is about simply putting your best foot forward. This may be the ending to this blog, and the ending to Nile Fortner Presents Boogie Buddha. But it is the start of a new journey, a journey I can’t see but I’m looking forward to.
To anybody who has followed me, liked one of my post, or simply took the time to check out my work, I want to say thank you, thank you, thank you. Even the two individuals who called me a N*gger, I say thank you.
If anything, I hope this is a reminder that if you love something, and are passionate about it, good things will come. Boogie Buddha may have been the name, but for the first time in a long time, my name Nile Fortner, is a name I am more than proud of. Once again, thank you, and to use the catchphrase one last time, Don’t Just Get Down, But get Boogie!
Sincerely,
Nile Fortner
