Batman: War On Crime is written and illustrated by DC Comics and Marvel writer Alex Ross. It is a short graphic novel that was released in 1999, and it primarily focuses on The Dark Knight sees himself in a young boy named Marcus, whose family just died, and afterwards he involves himself in a life of crime.
Now the first thing I have to get off my chest is how great the artwork is. This comic art jumps of the page and it feels so real. So real I forgot I was reading a graphic novel! All the characters come off so real, lifeful, and you can actually feel there expressions. This is literally some of the best artwork I've seen in a comic. It is different from other artwork we've seen in comic books/graphic novels. It is like a painting, instead of the traditional comic book artwork of bright bold colors, cartoon, etc. I do believe Batman could have been drawn just a little bit better. However, I say that about a majority of superheroes in Alex Ross books.

This graphic novel is a super easy read that actually could have been just a little bit better if it were longer. I personally wanted more story, and to have the author Alex Ross really drag out and put more of an emphasis of good boy Marcus now becoming a criminal. Also, it was nice to see this dark tone Batman have a sweet spot and empathy for Marcus. I know most people, including myself, love love love a dark Batman story. On the other hand, things don't need to get to dark. It was great to see the human side of caped crusader.

So these are my Final Bitchin' Buddha Thoughts on the graphic novel Batman War On Crime. Amazing artwork, easy read, and it is enjoyable. I wish it were a little longer, and that we could have gotten more time with Marcus and his lifestyle. It is not the best Batman story, but a decent reminder of why we love Batman. I am going to give Batman War On Crime an...
7 out of 10!
